Infant - 3 years
I read to my children when they were infants, usually while I was feeding them.  At this age, its the closeness that they desire and need, so why not read to them?

As they got older, we had LOTS of board books around the house, even in their crib.  Lots of classics are board books.  They will get chewed, ripped and completely destroyed.  But, chance are, your babies will love the stories and will be able to recognize the pictures and characters as they get older.

Some favorites:

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? The Very Hungry Caterpillar Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?
goodnight moon Runaway Bunny Pat the bunny [Book] Cover art of children's alphabet book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom  Good Night, Gorilla Board Book - Penguin Group (USA) - Toys"R"Us
